Camping and mountain biking at the Battelle Facility. Kayaking at Alum Creek State Park

The next campout will be Friday, September 10 – 12. The original plan was to have a repelling campout but, we have been unable to secure a Repelmaster for the outing. At the last PLC, the boys have decided to change this outing to a canoeing/mountain biking campout.

We will be camping at the Battelle facility near Alum Creek (Thanks Mr. Wolfe!), which is the same place that the Troop camped at for the high ropes campout last April. Boys can bring their bikes to take advantage of the mountain bike trails if they’d like (helmet required). If you wish to bike, you must bring your own.

Unfortunately, for the canoeing piece of this, council canoes are not available for this weekend. Several Troop families have kayaks. If you are one of these families and are willing to share, please let me know ASAP. We will quite possibly need help transporting them, as we can only fit so many kayaks and bikes in the trailer.

PFD’s may be an issue. If you wish to kayak and have your own PFD, I would suggest that you bring it. Otherwise, once we have an idea of how many are attending, I will see if I can get some from council. I have several PFD’s but, the majority of them are too big for smaller scouts, other families with kayaks may be in a similar situation, which is why we need more/smaller PFD’s.
